Violence against journalists is “legal” in Azerbaijan
The Reporters Without Borders watchdog organization condemns Azerbaijani authorities’ resolution not to investigate into attacks on journalists, Turan Information Agency reported.
Note that two newspaper reporters, Elmin Badalov of Yeni Musavat and Anar Gerayly of Milli Yol, were attacked on July 28 while they “dared” take photos of luxury villas owned by top officials. The journalists reported the incident to the Police, however, the Azerbaijani authorities have not yet investigated into the case.
“Earlier, the authorities used to repeat that the constitutional amendments on taking photos with officials’ consent only will not limit journalists’ rights. While the latest developments prove that the constitutional amendments aimed just at limiting media rights,” the document said.
