Armenian Defense Ministry official: Azerbaijani side lies to its own people concealing real number of casualties
A panorama.am correspondent talked to Head of Armenian Defense Ministry press office, Major General Vardan Avetisyan about the Azerbaijani diversion in the direction of the village of Chaylu.
“An Azerbaijani diversion group (7 or 8 people) attempted to penetrate into the zone controlled by NKR armed forces on August 31, at around 06.30 am. The Armenian soldiers reported it to the Commander. The Commander allowed the diversion group to come up to our positions to be able to keep them in the shot zone.
The Azerbaijani diversion group fall into a panic and started to fire irregularly. The fires shot by Armenian soldiers resulted in Azerbaijani side’s casualties, and they drew back. Soldiers from Azerbaijani positions opened long-range fire, which resulted in a light injury of Armenian serviceman Rudik Manaseryan.
The Azerbaijani side carried part of its casualties by dragging them along the ground, and some were left in the neutral zone. To calm down their own people the Azerbaijani authorities assert that allegedly Armenians and not they suffered casualties.
The number of Azerbaijani casualties is being verified at present.
Now I can say that 3 or 4 Azerbaijanis were killed in the fight, just as much were injured, and one of the injured died, thus we can say that the diversion group has been completely smashed. We have such information, but it is still being verified.”
