Iranian news: How Iranian Shirvan land could be artificially renamed into “Republic of Azerbaijan”
How could Iranian Aran and Shirvan lands got renamed into “Republic of Azerbaijan?” Mahmud Taher Zaden, publisher of “arannews.ir” writes.
“Today’s the Republic of Azerbaijan used to have quite a different historical name,” writer reminds of treaties of Turkmencha and Gyulistan, which defined that lands lying over the north to Araks were to be separated from Iran and pass under the rule Russian Empire.
“In 1911 Musavat party was founded in Baku which leaders Rasul Zade, Kazem Zade and Sharif Zade were supported by Ottoman Turkey; and in 1918 a state called “Republic of Azerbaijan” was founded.”
“Iranian famous intellectuals and historians demonstrated their concerns in this respect. Russian scientists and politician Bartold who used to work in the Russian foreign ministry, later stated that “Republic of Azerbaijan” had been intentionally chosen to create a falsehood atmosphere that the latter and Iranian Azerbaijan had much in common,” Taher Zade writes.
