New York hosts Armenian-Turkish joint concert
New York hosted an Armenian-Turkish joint concert – a classical music evening, organized by the Turkish consulate in New York. The concert was featuring Istanbul-born Armenian pianist Shahan Arzruni and Turkish violinist Cihat Askin.
The Armenian Diaspora had protested holding of the concert and called on the Armenian musicians to withdraw from the concert.
Baritone Gevorg Davtyan refused to play at the concert.
Shahan Arzruni also performed a concert on September 18, at the threshold of the reopening of St Cross Church of Akhtamar, Van, Eastern Turkey.
According to TRT, Arzruni told reporters following the concert that the concert is very significant for the Armenian and Turkish communities. The Turkish violinist called it a concert of the century in terms of the Armenian-Turkish relations.
