"Presidents Sargsyan and Turk meet in a business meeting to talk about further cooperation, historical similarities, etc."

On behalf of President Serzh Sargsyan and Mrs. Rita Sargsyan a business supper was served on Monday to honor the President of Slovenia Danilo Turk and his spouse Barbara Miklic Turk. According to the protocol the President delivered toasts during the meeting, President’s press service reported.

The delegates of the both parties have also been present at the business meeting, including social, political, cultural, business sector representatives.

Greeting Dabilo Turk and his spouse in the Republic of Armenia, President Sargsyan said Slovenia’s President’s visit to Armenia is the evidence that both parties are interested in expanding the bilateral cooperation and taking it to a new level.

Talking about those things that Armenia and Slovenia have in common President Sargsyan said the two nations are first of all switched to a similar fate accompanied by historical different developments, long-term losses of state, searching for self-identity, getting the independence in the aftermath of similar geo-political processes in the modern history.

Referring to Armenia’s devotion to the European values President Serzh Sarsgyan said: “Armenia-EU ties have, surely, been changed in their qualities, and they are dynamically developing. The negotiations of Association agreement have already been set, certain activities are held to prepare “deep and comprehensive free trade” agreement. I’m sure, Slovenia being a country who passed EU path, could greatly contribute to meet those challenges.”

Signifying the stability and peace in the region, the head of the republic said that the complex geo-political atmosphere of the region, the economic blockades and the conflicts are serious obstacles to our comprehensive development.

The President gratefully recorded that Slovenia managed to meet those challenges with its neighbors in a civilized manner being well aware of enduring life side-by-side. According to Serzh Sargsyan the regional cooperation is the best tool to join our possibilities and to create a power targeting the overall progress.

President Sargsyan raised toast in honor of Slovenia’s President Danilo Turk and his spouse Mrs. Turk, the welfare of the Republic of Slovenia and its people, in glory of Armenian-Slovenian cooperation.

Slovenia’s President Danilo Turk thanked for the cordial and warm hospitality and said it’s special honor and pleasure to be the first Slovenian President to visit Armenia. “This is a great event in the context of our bilateral ties and I hope this will contribute to our relations and will create cooperation in different spheres to get new achievements,” President Turk said.

Speaking about the historical similarities of Armenian and Slovenian peoples, President Turk said: “During the history our nations met difficult challenges, they suffered under foreign reign, but we managed to protect our strong national identity keeping our language and culture.”

Slovenia’s President expressed confidence that all the prerequisites for the bilateral more effective cooperation certainly exist, not only in the spheres of mutual interests but for the deeper dialogue in the international organizations.

President Turks said Armenia has an interesting geo-political position and has a virgin economic power, hence Armenia is an attractive partner for the EU: “As a member to the European Union, Slovenia has active role in developing projects like Eastern partnership and supports their further advancement. We hope through reinforced political cooperation and strongly integrated economy, the agreement of the Association between Armenia and the EU will unveil the real interests of the both sides and cooperation capacities in the next phase. Slovenia is ready to support its Armenian friend to contribute Armenia-EU cooperation,” President Turk said.
