National mechanisms for prevention of tortures tackled in Yerevan conference
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan participated today at the international workshop held in “Ani Plaza” hotel dedicated to the issues on creation of effective network of national mechanisms for prevention of tortures, governmental press office informed.
On behalf of the government the Prime Minister welcomed the participants of the workshop who arrived in Yerevan and noted that still in 2006 Armenia became a state participating in UN’s “Against Tortures and Severe, Inhumane or Humiliating Attitude and Punishments” convention’s declaration.
After the ratification of the convention in the National Assembly our country recognized the institute of human rights as independent national preventive mechanism. “Both in international and inner-state levels we are trying to take into consideration the best international experience. From that viewpoint today’s workshop will be very useful,” Tigran Sargsyan said.
The Prime Minister wished fruitful work to the participants of the workshop and expressed assurance that exchange of experience will hint with the usage of what additional means our country may increase the efficiency of national mechanism of prevention of tortures.
