Pope Benedict called on to support Christians living in Turkey
Pope Benedict XVI chaired a Synod Assembly focused on Middle East religious problems. The head of Catholic Bishops Council for Turkey, the Archbishop of Izmir Rudjero Francheskini delivered a speech stating that the Christians in Turkey are toughly targeted by fanatic nationalists, “CnnTurk” reported.
Izmir’s Archbishop told the participants of the assembly that Christians are persecuted and murdered in Turkey. Archbishop Francheskini reminded about Luidji Padovesini’s brutal murder in Isqenderunu.
“That was a planned murder. That was organized by extremist nationalists and fanatic religious. Monk Andrea Santoro was also a victim of that very action committed in Trapizon, Armenian editor-in-chief Hrant Dink, 4 Protestants in Malatia,” the Archbishop said calling on the Pope to support Christians living in Turkey.
