Edward Nalbandian: It was a useful and important meeting
The trilateral meeting of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian presidents in Astrakhan was useful and important, said the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian to the journalists assessing the meeting held today in Astrakhan.
The Foreign Minister mentioned in particular, “The presidents discussed the details of the NKR conflict settlement. They reaffirmed the provisions of the declaration adopted in Maiendorf, stressed that it is necessary to undertake steps for diplomatic, political solution in order to increase the atmosphere of the mutual trust and to strengthen the ceasefire regime.”
An agreement was reached on exchanging the captives of war and on returning the remains of the dead, as well as on being guided by this agreement also in the future. Foreign Ministers were assigned to continue working and to try to reach an agreement about the basic principles of the settlement before the OSCE summit in Astana.
It should be noted that today took place the trilateral meeting of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. This was the third meeting in this format this year.
