Armenia’s nuclear, radial security meets international standards
Armenia’s nuclear and radial security meets international standards, Head of the State Committee for Nuclear Security Regulation to Armenia’s Government Ashot Martirosyan told a news conference in Yerevan.
According to him, Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) second energy unit operation was temporarily stopped on October 15, due to plan repairs and a series of security events.
The official said that ANPP security rises from year to year according to the program of raising ANPP technical security.
Last week Slovakia hosted a meeting of the Western European Nuclear Regulators’ Association (WENRA) addressing nuclear security harmonization.
18 security standards have been developed on the basis of IAEA standards to be used in Western European countries as well as in Armenia, Russia, Ukraine which have been lately invited to WENRA as observers.
“Presently, we study international experience and will gradually start to use Western European standards in Armenia,” Martirosyan said.
