I. Memmedov: Azerbaijan’s political future faces new tougher challenges
The mass infringements recorded on November 7 in Azerbaijan parliamentary elections are still widely targeted. Some experts and writers say Baku has definitely rejected implementation of its duties towards the European institutions.
The co-founder of “Real” movement Ilgar Memmedov talked to “Yeni Musavat” paper and answered to the question why Azerbaijani authorities preferred the style of mass infringements: “Our authorities who speak of war every day, want to insure themselves from sudden domestic political events. They think even a sudden speech of opposition at Parliament is a threat to them. But the concerning point is that people lose confidence towards their statesmen. They hoped on carousel, but how could they have any hope toward it in war?”
To the question whether it’s possible quite new, different figures appear in Azerbaijan, Memmedov said: “On election day, Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and Interior Minister Ramil Uzubov planned the funerals of two shahids accompanied by a military ceremony. But the recording on youtube.com showed that some slogans hindered the ceremony. The ministers were forced to leave the ceremony. Hence, next time not only the ministers but the president may be forced to leave the ceremony.” He added that Azerbaijan’s political future faces new tougher challenges.
