Today’s Zaman. “Azerbaijan is not little brother of any country”
Turkish daily “Today’s Zaman” published a story by Amanda Paul, who makes her remarks on WikiLeaks disclosures particularly, Turkish-Azerbaijani relations.
“Turkey and Azerbaijan have always appeared under “one nation, two states” slogan – Turkey is an elder brother and Azerbaijan as a little brother who is always inspired by Turkey. But WikiLeaks disclosures showed that beyond the political stage Turkish-Azerbaijani ties are not so balanced, as the senior leadership of those two countries endeavor to. In fact Azerbaijani is a little brother for Turkey aimed to transport caol.”
The story tells that in 1993 Turkey closed its border with Armenia for Azerbaijan, but when Turkey was determined to normalize ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan prevented the process using its most powerful weapons – oil and gas.
“Azerbaijan is not Turkey. There is only one “Turkey” in the world, and Azerbaijan is not satisfied by “the role of little brother” and Baku needs to grow.”
