Azerbaijan bans wearing of hijab at schools
Thousands of protestors organized rally in front of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Education, Turan news agency reported.
According to the source, the ministry of education banned wearing of scarves (hijab) at schools. And the students who wear scarves in schools are banned to enter the building. The protestors call on the government to respect their right of education.
We could understand Azerbaijani Government’s efforts to follow European values, but at the same time having adopted Islam as state religion, they reject feeling of respect towards its religious traditions.
To conclude, the religious values are counterattacked by state decisions. The students in Azerbaijan have two choices – to wear scarves and live as uneducated people or to take off their veils, which is a matter of honor and to get education.
