9-year-old Armenian Samuel Sevian youngest US chess “master”
A 9-year-old California boy of Armenian origin, Samuel Sevian, has been granted the title of the youngest US chess “master”.
“The Washington Post” writes that to be qualified “National master” a chess player needs rating of 2,200, but the United States Chess Federation gave Samuel a rating of 2,201 after the Dec. 11 match.
Currently, Samuel beat the previous record-holder for youngest chess master, Nicholas Nip.
Samuel also was the youngest person to reach the previous chess level of "expert" when he was 8.The federation's ultimate title is that of "senior master" for ratings of 2,400 and up.
