Monument of peace erected in Kars caused political scandal
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu have both deeply criticized the Peace and Philanthropy Monument authored by Turkish sculptor Mehmet Aksoi. The monument that is erected in Turkish city of Kars, was called the ugliest and worst monument by PM Erdogan, Turkish “Dogan haber” news agency reports.
Erdogan claimed the monument should be soon taken away, since a park was to be built there. Turkish FM declared the monument didn’t match with the architecture of the city.
The monument which is 30m high is seen from the Armenian side also. Architect Aksoi stated: “President pays peace visit to Armenia. So we’re playing peace if they’re going to destroy the peace monument. What kind of peace is this?”
