Julian Assange appears in court today
Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks anti-secrecy group, was to appear again in a British court on Tuesday for a largely procedural hearing concerning his resistance to a Swedish demand for his extradition following allegations of sexual misbehavior.
A spokesman for the British courts said, "The hearing on Tuesday is to ensure that the real issues in the case are identified and that preparation of the case is progressing in a timely fashion," according to Reuters. The hearing, which is mostly procedural, will probably decide the date of the extradition hearing, as well as what documents and witnesses will be used in the proceedings.
As a precondition to his bail, Assange has been wearing an electronic tag and must obey a curfew in what he has described as "hi-tech house arrest," according to Reuters.
