Pingdom research: 107 trillion e-mails sent in 2010
Internet users sent a total of 107 trillion e-mails worldwide in 2010, according to Pingdom, which provides web monitoring services to various companies.
Pingdom added up the numbers and found that an average of 294 billion e-mails were sent every day. Around 89 percent, or 262 billion of those e-mails were spam or junk e-mails, for advertisements, etc.
The number of e-mail accounts held around the world is estimated to be at 2.9 billion with 480 million new e-mail users joining the World Wide Web last year.
There were 255 million websites as of December 2010 with 21.4 million new sites added during the year.
The service reported there are nearly 2 billion Internet users in the world out of nearly 7 billion people.
