Milliyet. Dink murdered in the aftermath of Turkish inactivity
On the 19th of January, 2007, famous journalist, editor-in-chief and founder of “Agos” daily Hrant Dink was attacked and murdered in front of his office building located in Shishli block of Istanbul. Four years have passed. The trial is still on and those responsible have not been punished.
Famous Turkish journalist and columnist Mehmet Ali Birand expressed his complaints in this respect.
In a story published by “Milliyet” daily and titled “Those closing eyes on Dink’s assassination should be punished”, Birand says that the case is the “masterpiece of shame” of Turkish police. Birand says he’s sure if Nedim Sheneri, that brave journalist, didn’t unveil the truth of the assassination, Turkish people would never know why Dink was murdered. But he ensures that today Turkish society knows the truth.
«-They knew Hrant was to be murdered. The police ignored it because of Armenian roots Hrant had.
-The preliminary phase of preparing the assassination, police consciously or unconsciously ignored.
-The investigators deliberately failed their work, or they simply couldn’t do it,” Birand writes adding that in the aftermath of Turkish inactivity Dink was murdered.
“Turkish people should not carry that burden on their shoulders, and the criminals should be punished,” Mehmet Ali Birand concluded.
