Hurriyet. Zero result instead of zero problems with neighbors
Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu keeps saying that they follow “zero problems with neghbors” foreign political course. Turkish columnist Juneyt Ulsever studied the benefits and losses of Ankara’s foreign policy.
The story published in Turkish “Hurriyet” daily points two facts for benefits:
1. Making free entrance visa regime the trade-economic communication with the neighbors would be reinforced.
2. The successes in the continent of Africa will soon have positive impact on Turkish economy.
The columnist has also listed the unsuccessful parts of Ankara’s foreign policy – waste of energy, in vain efforts and zero results. Some are listed in the story.
1. Protocols were signed with Armenia. Azerbaijan became furious. PM Erdogan rushed to pay visit to Baku. The opposition condemned Armenian-Turkish protocols, which are still lying in the folder,
2. Turkey took initiative to mediate between Syria-Israel relations. But ties with Israel have worsened and we can’t say anything anymore.
3. Turkey took another initiative among US, the West and Iran. UN Security Council prepares sanctions against Iran, while Turkey together with Brazil signed a deal to support Iran. Turkey voted against those sanctions at UN SC summit and gained status of insecure and unsteady ally for US.
To conclude, zero problems with neighbors appeared to have zero results.
