Statue of Humanity will be demolished: West will find resemblance with Talibans
Columnist Mehmed Ali Birand who writes for Turkish “Milliyet” daily expressed regret and pain for the decision to demolish Statue of Humanity erected in Kars. A couple of day ago Kars municipality council adopted a decision to remove that huge monument, which had been called “monstrous” by Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan.
Birand writes that the municipality carried out Erdogan’s order like an obedient stooge and soon the statue symbolizing good relations with Armenia will be removed. Birand underscores the fact that the demolishment will be televised in live broadcast.
“Can you imagine what will happen? The world will be looking how the statue is being destroyed. The West will hold similarities with Talibans who were destroying Budda statues. And the Armenians will be saying look at the Turks’ vandalism. But the PM didn’t wish that, thus, regretfully the events would be developing differently,” Turkish columnist writes.
