Azerbaijani political activist may be sentenced for 3 years
Azerbaijani political activist Jabbar Savalani is sentenced to two months arrest, the lawyer of the oppositional activist Asabali Mustafayev told “Turan” news agency.
The lawyer said another charge was filed against Savalani - storage of drugs which can jail him for 3 years.
Savalani’s lawyer said the activist was arrested groundless and that the arresting process was conducted through violation of judicial norms.
In the evening of 5 February, member of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Youth Committee Jabbar Salavan was arrested in Sumgayit.
Jabbar Savalan is currently being held in Sumgayit Police Department.
Abulfaz Gurbanli says that, after the confrontation that took place between the police and opposition during the 21st anniversary of 20 January events, Mr. Savalan said he was being followed.
