163 suspects for “Balyoz” coup case arrested in Turkey
Turkish prosecutor’s office adopted a decision of arrest for 163 current and retired military during the 13th trial on “Balyoz” (Sledgehammer) coup case. According to “Dogan” news agency 134 suspects were arrested in the courthouse, while arrest warrants were issued for the rest 27 suspects.
Thus, court ordered arrests for former Naval Forces Commander Adm. Ozden, former Air Forces Commander Gen. Ibrahim Fırtına, retired Gen Dogan, Saigun. Turkish media outlets called the event shocking.
Sledgehammer is a suspected coup plan devised at a military gathering in 2003 that allegedly sought to undermine the government in order to lay the groundwork for a military takeover. During an examination of the documents, the police found fingerprints belonging to 70 different people.
