Bloody censorship: murdered Armenian journalists not commemorated in Turkey
Turkey commemorates deaths of murdered journalists, critics are made, and demands for media freedom are set. Robert Koptac, who writes for “Taraf” daily underscores a huge gap which is left abandoned. “When will Journalists’ Union of Turkey pay tribute to Armenian journalists murdered in 1915?” Koptac raises a question.
The toll of the murdered journalists differs, as “Journalists’ Union of Turkey” says 62 journalists were murdered from 1909 to 2009; while “Partnership for modern journalists” says 67 were killed from 1905 to 2009. The only Armenian journalist mentioned in the list is Hrant Dink. “Taraf” writes that according to historic facts hundred thousands people of different professions, including journalists were killed in 1915
The story tells that in 2010 journalist Byulent Tellan released a report titled “Bloody censorship” where names of 22 Armenian journalists and 10 of different nationalities were listed among the murdered people in 1015.
