Robert Bradtke: All sides share idea of not letting any other war break out in South Caucasus
“The status quo, even if it sounds good for someone, doesn’t give stability,” Robert Bradtke, U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group stated at a conference on Nagorno Karabakh conflict at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington on March 28, APA reported.
According to the source, the American diplomat stressed that the U.S. works closely with its Russian and French partners on all levels to achieve peace as soon as possible. He noted that all the sides share the idea of not letting any other war break out in the South Caucasus.
“The people in the region deserve a better future with stability and prosperity. And the people should get chances for such future,” Robert Bradtke said adding that the Nagorno Karabakh problem doesn’t always get the attention it is supposed to get. He stressed that the conflict is not frozen, but is a continuing one.
According to the source, Kerry Cavano, former OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair talked about the mistakes that were made in the negotiations during the past years. He said the peace process is more complicated than it was before.
Carnegie Foundation expert Thomas de Waal called for more transparency and frankness in the negotiation process.
All the experts and officials agreed that peace is vital and necessary in the region and no other war should be allowed to break out in the South Caucasus.
