Armenian National Committee of Spain welcomes Argentina court ruling
The Armenian National Committee of Spain welcomed the Argentina court ruling on the lawsuit filed by Gregorio Hayrapetyan, which recognized as genocide the crime perpetrated against the Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923.
According to the ARF press office, Gregorio Hayrapetyan filed the lawsuit in 2000 seeking to get information about his relatives who had been killed in the Genocide.
During the investigation, the court gathered documents from the archives in Great Britain, U.S., Germany, Vatican, France and other states – reports of ambassadors accredited to the Ottoman Empire, secret documents, diplomatic correspondence, proving that the Ottoman Turkey planned the Genocide against Armenians in advance, 1.5 million Armenians were killed in the Genocide, and those who survived it were forced to leave their homeland and to settle in foreign countries.
Official Ankara, staying committed to the policy of denial, condemned the Argentina court ruling.
Note that Argentina recognized the Armenian Genocide in 2007.
