Hurriyet. Tough 2015 for Turkey
Turkish renowned journalist and analyst Mehmet Ali Birand writes in a story published by “Hurriyet” that the Turks managed to overcome April 24 without traditional crisis in Turkish-American relations; Obama didn’t use the word Genocide in his address. Though the Armenian and the Turkish sides were making remarks of protest, Birand says, the White House adopted a role, which was convenient for the both sides.
“Saying it in Armenian “Medz Eghern”, Obama, in fact, managed to cease the anger of the Turkish community and at the same time, not to lose his Armenian votes. Like he did it earlier, he’s chosen the happy medium and satisfied both of the sides,” Birand says.
He targets 2015, when Turks will face a real danger – 100th jubilee of Armenian Genocide. “If we don’t start now, if we don’t develop a strategy now, we’ll face a shocking scene then,” Turkish analyst writes.
