Mourinho sent off and Guardiola banned to appear in Champions League
The governing body of European football, UEFA, has sanctioned Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho with a five game ban following his sending off in the first game of this season's Champions League semifinal and comments made in the post game press conference. He has also been given a 50,000 euro fine.
Mourinho was sent off by referee Wolfgang Stark for criticizing the decision of referee Wolfgang Stark to send midfielder Pepe off in the second half of the game, which Barca won 2-0 to virtually assure their qualification for the final of the competition.
Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Pinto will not be at Pep Guardiola's disposal for the Champions League final against Manchester United after UEFA confirmed it has handed him a three-match ban for his actions against Real Madrid in the semifinals.
The 35-year-old Spaniard appeared to lead a halftime fracas in the first-leg at the Bernabeu. Tempers flared on the bench, leading to a melee around the tunnel area. Police and security officials were forced to restore peace before players and officials from both sides finally made their way to the dressing rooms.
