 Armenian GM Levon Aronyan was a favorite in Candidates Matches but regretfully, has lost his chance to appear in the further rounds. Levon Aronyan has been defeated by Alexander Grishchuk.

Having recorded in draw in the principle sets Levon Aronyan and Alexander Grishchuk met in rapid chess. In the first set Grishchuk surpassed Aronyan but the Armenian GM managed to equal the score. In the third set both of the chess players achieved equal amount of scores, but finally in the fourth Levon Aronyan yielded.
