AmCham to pursuit a better business environment and the promotion of best business practices in Armenia
On July 22, 2011, American Chamber of Commerce in Armenia (AmCham) held its eleventh Annual General Meeting in the Armenia Marriott Hotel, chaired by AmCham President David Atanessian. Among the many issues discussed the meeting focused on the achievements and development prospects of the organization, as well as the financial reports. The General Meeting ruled on a number of organizational issues and approved several long pending amendments to the Charter of AmCham. Specifically, the General Meeting resolved to increase the number of directors (members of the AmCham Board of Directors) from 8 to 12.
The General Meeting elected Edward Mouradian of the Prudence Law Firm as the new AmCham President. Former President David Atanessian of First Mortgage Company Armenia and Director Georgi Isayan of LTX-Credence Armenia were also elected to serve as the First and Second Vice Presidents, respectively. The General Meeting then elected the following new directors: Ararat Ghukasyan of Byblos Bank, Diana Ghazaryan of Booz Allen Hamilton, David Davtian of Cigar Aristocrat, David Sargsyan of the Ameria Group of Companies, Gagik Arzumanyan of the Armenian Copper Program, Garnik Tonoyan of Cascade Insurance, Karen Zakaryan of NASDAQ OMX, Heiko Kreisel of Zeppelin Armenia, and Tigran Gasparyan of KPMG.
AmCham is an independent business association operating in Armenia since 2000. In pursuit of a better business environment and the promotion of best business practices, AmCham closely cooperates with the Armenian government, international organizations, and the wider business community. AmCham is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and European Council of American Chambers of Commerce.
Diana Gaziyan, AmCham Executive Director, told Panorama.am that AmCham is a member of the Business Support Council chaired by the RA Prime Minister, where it presents various issues raised by its member companies. Since its foundation AmCham has assumed active role in terms of promoting tax reforms, e.g. VAT overpayment refund issue for exporting companies.
