Ankara targeted by Washington-Moscow-Tehran triangle
“Official Ankara will face tougher situation in Washington-Moscow-Tehran triangle,” said expert Levon Hovsepyan to Panorama.am making his remarks on Turkey's decision to host on its soil the radar component of a US-sponsored missile shield project.
It’s said those radars will be installed in the eastern part of Turkey, near the Iranian boarder. “Though Turkish PM Erdogan has made some disrupted statements, it’s obvious that those radars are conditioned by Iranian factor, since there is no other threat at the moment,” L. Hovsepyan said.
According to the expert, Russian and Iranian sides have already expressed their concerns and Turkey will now have to give guarantees which are not likely to be convincing.
“It’s not by chance that major air defense trainings have been carried out in the Turkish-Iranian border. Turkey isn’t a trustworthy partner for Iran in the region, and the Russian-Turkish relations are conditioned by economic interests, where deep conflicts and geo-political competition exists. Though Turkey is a NATO member state, it is impacted by the military political situation of the West,” said the expert.
Military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan said the project surely has its peculiarities:
“It’s first time ever Turkey hosts such a powerful missile shields. Though Turkey is a NATO family member, it owned the poorest missile shields.”
According to the expert through the missile shields it will be possible to follow Russian ballistic missiles from the southern regions. This surely cannot leave the Russian side indifferent.
