G. Melikyan: Millennium Challenges Corporation programs vital for development of economy
“Millennium Challenges Corporation completes compact with Armenia. What have we gained from that, what has it taught to us? First of all it has created new opportunities to more effectively use the agricultural potential of Armenia,” stated Republican MP Gagik Melikyan in National Assembly session.
“Many modern countries utilize agriculture and register tangible results. Through the foundation, Armenian agriculture has become a part of higher agricultural developments. Large-scale activities have been carried out to reconstruct rural roads; much has been done in irrigation infrastructure. Similar activities used to be held 20 years ago, in the aftermath of which the issue of irrigation has become of top priority for the inhabitants of rural communities.
The program funded reconstruction of 600km canals, pipes and drainages; it restored 17 pumping stations. More than 45.000 farmers have been trained through special trainings organized by the foundation.
This program was really very important for our economy. And I find it necessary to put forth efforts to keep the program signifying the processing, storage and distribution of the agricultural stuff,” reads the statement.
