CoE Commissioner’s remarks on murdering journalists: Azerbaijani killed journalists also listed
Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg delivered a statement in Strasbourg making remarks on the violence applied against the rights of journalists, reported “Turan” news agency.
“In recent years a number of leading journalists have been brutally murdered in Europe – Hrant Dink in Turkey, Georgi Gongadze in Ukraine, Elmar Huseynov in Azerbaijan, Anna Politkovski in Russia, and others,” said Mr. Hammarberg.
The CoE Commissioner has stated that the murderers and those who ordered the assassinations should be revealed and punished.
According to the source, since 1992 about hundred journalists have been murdered while carrying our their professional duties.
