Azerbaijan’s APA spreads misinformation on behalf of Russian MFA
APA Azerbaijani news agency reports that at the press briefing of Russian MFA Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich on October 5, agency’s Moscow correspondent asked a question: “Will Russia support the candidacy of Azerbaijan for the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council?” to which Lukashevich allegedly said that he understands the goal of the Azerbaijani side in this issue and will try to achieve a resolution of this issue in favor of the Azerbaijani side.
However, the press briefing’s transcript on the MFA official website certainly says nothing of the kind.
Indeed, the answer to the question was as follows:
Question: Will Russia support the candidacy of Azerbaijan for the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council?
Answer: Regarding the election of the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, I find it difficult to comment with certainty on Azerbaijan’s candidacy. We realize the importance of the issue for Baku and are hopeful that Baku will find the necessary solution.
Another incident with Azerbaijani journalists happened at the Russian MFA’s press briefing on September 30. Then Lukashevich had to rebuke a correspondent of InterAz TV channel Mamedkhan Akhmedov, saying that he should behave properly and be careful while choosing his words.
