Azerbaijan’s militaristic policy contradicts letter and spirit of international treaties – Armenia’s Ambassador to UN
At the meeting of the UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security, the representative of Azerbaijan’s delegation in UN tried to blame Armenia for concealing 8 tanks in 2001, which exceeded the number stipulated by the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).
The representative of Armenia’s delegation noted that the Azerbaijani delegation’s statement, rich in hackneyed arguments from the arsenal of Azerbaijan’s agitprop, goes beyond the limits of topical disarmament issues which are being discussed and in his remarks pointed to Azerbaijan’s unsuccessful attempts to mislead the international community, which pose a threat to regional security and stability, nonplus the efforts of the mediators towards the settlement of regional conflicts.
Azerbaijani side’s disregard of the appeals of the international instances, including UN Secretary-General, heads of OSCE member states and the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, for withdrawing snipers from the line of contact and taking steps towards strengthening confidence as well as Azerbaijan’s militaristic policy contradict the letter and spirit of the international treaties, in particular, the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and UN resolutions aimed at reduction of military budgets, regional disarmament and transparency in armaments.
