BBC hands over evidence package to AIBA
Evidence that Azerbaijani authorities have offered bribes to buy qualifications for their boxers in Olympic Games has been published. BBC has confirmed that evidence are handed over to the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) as the body began their investigation into accusations bribes were accepted in return for 2012 Olympic gold medals, “Yeni Musavat” paper informs.
BBC says AIBA official Tom Virgets has been handed over the package of evidence.
Last month, the International Olympic Committee called on the BBC to back up claims made on BBC Two's Newsnight programme of secret payments made by Azerbaijan to World Series Boxing (WSB) for the guarantee of two gold medals at the Games next year.
