Ayaz Mutallibov: I sacrificed myself for Azerbaijan
Ex-Azerbaijani President, Co-Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Ayaz Mutallibov was interviewed by the Mediaforum website. The former Azerbaijani President said he emigrated to Moscow, sacrificing himself to Azerbaijan, and has been suffering for 19 years as emigrant.
Mutallibov said: “My departure from the country was not so much a forced measure as the result of an agreement. The situation was quite different in 1992. Under the circumstances, I was forced to leave the country. There was coup going on in the country. I had no chance to retain my position. I could do so within the framework of the Constitution, using the legal resource, Armed Forces supporting the government. However, I did not agree. I chose country’s and people’s security and resigned. I have been suffering for 19 years as emigrant. I sacrificed myself, and what I did requires courage and heart. Not everyone is able to do so...”
