Two Armenian doctors arrested in LA for peddling prescription OxyContin
14 people have been arrested in Los Angeles, USA, being charged for allegedly peddling prescription OxyContin obtained from Medicare, reported UPI.
According to the source two Armenian doctors were among the 14 defendants – Mike Mikaelyan and Anjelika Sanamian.
“The organizations not only flooded the streets of Los Angeles with an extremely dangerous narcotic, it also bilked a government-run program designed to help the poor and elderly,” said US Attorney Andre Birotte in a written statement.
The ring, which also billed Medicare and California's Medical system for more than $6 million for examinations and procedures, allegedly wrote nearly 11,000 OxyContin prescriptions billed to Medicare in an 18-month period.
