Azadlig: Azerbaijani authorities send suicide data to WHO, reducing real figures three times
Azerbaijan’s National Statistical Service, Ministry of the Interior and Republican Prosecutor’s Office hide the suicide statistics in the country.
According to the World Health Organization data, Azerbaijan ranks last among the countries having the highest suicide rates, with 1.3 suicide deaths per 100000 people. However, only in the 9 months of the current year the number of suicides is three times (!) higher than the figures presented to the international organizations by the Azerbaijani authorities, Azadlig said.
“Data reported to WHO say that nearly 10 people commit suicide in the country monthly. Indeed, 311 suicide deaths have been recorded in 9 months, starting 2011 January, while WHO received data from Azerbaijan saying that the annual suicide rate in Azerbaijan is 120. Only the 9 months data we possess are three times higher than the official figures. Azerbaijan engages in self-deception and presents fake data to international organizations,” Azadlig wrote.
