Azerbaijani expert: Society should know about hard social conditions of servicemen
“Society should know about the hard social conditions the servicemen face. In towns servicemen receive 47 manats to pay rent and in regions they receive only 6 manats. They cannot rent an apartment for such a miserable sum,” Azerbaijani military expert Telman Abilov said, addressing the launching ceremony of the project of the “Doctrine” Journalists' Military Research Center.
Turan reports that the project includes legislative proposals aimed at improving social security of Azerbaijani servicemen. The financial security issues in the army should be transparent, Abilov noted.
Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Dashdamir Aliyev addressing the problems in the Azerbaijani army drew attention to the “moral breaking of soldiers who are forced to collect waste and to clean up sewage.”
The authors of the project suggest that the pay of the Azerbaijani servicemen be increased three-fold. It is supposed also to determine bonuses for serving more than eight hours a day and on days off. Besides, it is proposed that food provisions be increased from 80 dollars to 380 dollars. 190-380 dollars must be given to servicemen to rent an apartment.
On retiring or going to reserve, the authors of the project say, servicemen should get a one-time benefit payment in a 20-fold salary. Head of the Association of Reserve Officers Yashar Jafarli noted that the project has revealed the necessity of serious changes in the legislation.
