APFP: Azerbaijani government uses Bologna system to legalize bribery
The Azerbaijan Media Center hosted a roundtable discussion on Monday dedicated to the implementation of the Bologna Process in Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions. The meeting was initiated by the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Youth Committee, Turan reported. According to head of the committee Abulfaz Gurbanli, despite the fact that Azerbaijan has joined the Bologna Process long ago, there are many problems in the education sector.
Moreover, some regress is observed in the education sector of the country over the past two or three years.
According to Gurbanli, the average score of applicants at the entrance examinations in 2009-2011 was less than 200.
"The Azerbaijani government uses the Bologna system to legalize bribery," he added.
He believes that the government deliberately lowers the quality of education in order to manipulate young people. The aim of the discussion, he noted, is attracting public attention to the problems of education. Gurbanli believes that if the political atmosphere in the country does not change, the situation in the field of education will not improve.
Economic expert Muhammad Talibli noted that the Bologna Process in Azerbaijan faces many problems, and one of the shortcomings is undeveloped system of education credits.
