Democratic Party head: Opposition’s weakness in Azerbaijan explained by lack of democracy
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told Al Jazeera channel that the Azerbaijani government is not to blame for the weakness of the opposition, because the government puts no obstacles in the opposition’s way.
In return, head of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu told the Faktxeber.com website that the opposition is weak under the authoritarian and totalitarian regimes.
“This viewpoint is groundless. The Azerbaijani opposition is weak due to the total ban on its political activities. Opposition is strong in developed countries and weak – under authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. Currently there is no opposition in Azerbaijan which is explained by the lack of democracy in the country,” the head of the party said.
