Azadlig: Tuberculosis cases increase 56 percent in Azerbaijan due to hard living conditions
Director of Baku Scientific Research Institute of Lung Diseases Eljan Mamedbekov addressing the 5th international conference on tuberculosis and lung diseases in Baku said that around 5000 people suffer from tuberculosis in Azerbaijan, according to 2010 data, up 56.2 percent compared to the previous years, Azadlig reported.
The source says that the main cause of the high rates of the disease is the hard living conditions in Azerbaijan. The majority of Azerbaijani people have a low standard of living. Ecological damage inflicted by major construction works is another cause. This is the main factor for increase in lung disease rates.
Doctor of Medical Science, Professor Adil Qeybulla told Azadlig that the lack of state anti-tuberculosis program and poor quality drugs in hospitals are other factors contributing to the high rates of tuberculosis in Azerbaijan.
