U.S. embassy in Sarajevo attacked by gunman
Police have arrested a man they believe opened fire Friday near the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo. A man reportedly opened fire near the embassy and wounded a police officer before being shot and arrested, GlobalPost reports citing the Associated Press.
Police spokesman Irfan Nefic told Bosnian television that the man is suspected of firing an automatic weapon, AFP reports. The suspected gunman has received medical treatment and is now hospitalized.
The man, identified by AFP as Mevlid Jasarevic, 23, is a suspected radical Islamist and has been identified as a member of the Wahhabi branch of Islam.
The U.S. embassy has confirmed the incident occurred but has not given details.
