Milaz: Azerbaijani leadership scared of unprecedented increase in military death rate
The Azerbaijani leadership demanded that Minister of Defense Safar Abiyev reduce to minimum the deaths in the Azerbaijani army, a source in the Ministry told Milaz, adding that Azerbaijan’s political leadership is seriously concerned about the increase in the military death rate.
The source reports that on November 1 the Presidential Administration reached on the phone the Minister of Defense. An enlarged meeting will be held soon to discuss the death rate in the Azerbaijani army, with 90 losses only in the 10 months of 2011. The country’s leadership is seriously scared of the unprecedented number of deaths in the army, according to the source.
Azerbaijani Defense Ministry generals and colonels have been visiting military units since October 29. They are particularly interested in negative phenomena, problems in the relations between soldiers and officers, and causes of servicemen’s deaths. In this connection, Safar Abiyev ordered commanders of military units “not to permit soldiers’ deaths.”
