Azerbaijan’s military deaths in 2011 made public: 89 dead, 91 injured
Media reports reveal that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces registered 89 deaths in 2011. 91 servicemen were injured in the period under review, Salamnews reported citing the “Doctrine” Journalists' Military Research Center.
In the period under review, Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ non-combat losses amounted to 76. 16 soldiers were killed by their co-servicemen, 13 died as a result of accidents, 13 were killed in road accidents, 12 died from diseases. 9 Azerbaijani soldiers died under unknown circumstances, one died after unsuccessful surgery. 12 servicemen were killed in the line of contact, one soldier was killed by a mine blast. 12 servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces committed suicide.
On the death list, 82 deaths occurred in the Ministry of Defense, 4 in the State Border Service, 2 in the Internal Troops, 1 in the National Guard.
17 Azerbaijani soldiers were injured by their co-servicemen, including reckless injuries, 5 were injured while attempting suicide, 38 in car accidents, 8 as a result of accidents, 3 from mine blasts. 20 servicemen were injured in the line of contact.
On the injury list, 10 servicemen served in the State Border Service, 1 in the Internal Troops, 1 in the Military Prosecutor’s Office, 2 in the National Guard, and 77 in the Defense Ministry.
