Azerbaijani Minister: Low GDP rate is due to low oil production
Low GDP rate in Azerbaijan this year is due to the abrupt reduction in oil production volumes, Azerbaijani Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov told reporters Wednesday, commenting upon the low GDP rate in Azerbaijan, against the prognoses, Salamnews reported.
“GDP amounted to 0.5 percent in 9 months, and I hope there will be progress in this sector by the end of the year. This is connected to the situation in the oil sector. Oil sector has a large share of GDP, and the rate fell due to the delay of the scheduled work in this sector. However, there will be progress by the end of the year,” said the Minister.
Note that GDP growth rate amounted to 0.5 percent in Azerbaijan from the beginning of the year, with the key oil production sector 8 percent down in the 9 months of 2011.
