Azadlig: Head of Azerbaijan’s Salyan district cuts off electricity, gas to population because of revenge
Around 200 residents of the village of Garbagly, Salyan district of Azerbaijan, blocked the Salyan-Shirvan highway in protest against electricity and gas cut off. Vehicles stuck in a major traffic jam on the highway. The police intervened to disperse the road blockade, Azadlig reported.
The police used force against protesters, while local authorities refused to tell the population whether they will solve the problem or not. The protesters claim that they have no debts for electricity and gas and they do not know why head of the district Tahir Kerimov takes revenge upon them in this way.
A source told Azadlig that electricity was cut off to ordinary citizens only, while owners of bakeries and greenhouses, which are on good terms with the local authorities, get uninterrupted electricity supply.
