10000 teachers made redundant in country – Azerbaijani Education Minister
10000 teachers have been made redundant in Azerbaijan due to retirement age, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov told reporters on Tuesday.
Mardanov noted that around 150000 teachers currently work in Azerbaijan’s secondary schools, according to Trend. The Minister said that this number “exceeds the norm.” The schools need to have 12-13 students per teacher.
“1300000 students currently attend comprehensive schools in Azerbaijan. Therefore the number of teachers needs to be reduced to bring it in line with the number of students,” said the Minister.
