Azadlig: Azerbaijani authorities take next step towards one-party parliament
The Azerbaijani authorities intend to pass amendments to the law “On Political Parties” for creating a one-party parliament. Azadlig reports that the amendments specifically concern the funding of the political parties. The package of amendments envisages giving 90 percent of state financing to parties having seats in the parliament and 10 percent – to parties which do not have seats in the parliament but have received more than 3 percent of votes.
“So the state funding will completely go to the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party and its “satellites” because the parliamentary elections of 2010 were rigged so that no real opposition party could receive the above mentioned 3 percent of votes,” the newspaper says.
