Azerbaijani Prof: Until 1918 Azerbaijan didn’t exist
“Azerbaijan has a history of 20 years; it was founded on the territories of Iranian Aran and Shirvan provinces,” Iranian “arannews.ir” news site quotes Azerbaijani scientist, Prof. Sirius Hashemov as saying.
Iranian news site says Azerbaijan, having distorted historical facts, presents renowned Iranian poet Nizami Gyanjiev as an Azeri writer, and notes that 800 years ago the poet was forced by Iranian statesmen to write in Persian.
Azerbaijani scientist Sirus Hashemov, referring to the topic, said: “We must be courageous while introducing the historical facts – territories of Aran and Shirvan, where in 1918 Azerbaijan was founded, were parts of Iran. Thus, when Gyanjiev was writing his poems, Gyanja and Nizami were Iranian provinces.”
Developing the topic, Hashemov concluded: “Azerbaijan has a history of only 20 years; hence a poet existing 800 years ago could not be an Azerbaijani.”
