Tia.az: Students banned from mosques in Azerbaijan
As the holy month of Muharram came, the Azerbaijani regional authorities have begun to take special measures to take control of the situation, Tia.az reported. They found an “original” way out of the situation, the source said.
The first step was banning students from mosques in Jalilabad region of Azerbaijan. This initiative belongs to the regional branch of the Pedagogical University whose rector threatened the students with expulsion if they are seen attending a mosque.
Well-informed sources told Tia.az that the order to tighten control came “from above.” University rectors claim that their actions are authorized, and this order comes from Baku.
